Quantum Drive is an independent R&D programme founded by inventor Patrice Barbier, dedicated to the development of next-generation pulsed electromagnetic technologies.
Its first international intellectual property milestone dates back to 2008 in Switzerland, with the filing of international patent application PCT/IB2008/002052. The first generation focused on a motor application based on the use of electromagnetic pulses to directly produce mechanical effects.
Since then, nearly two decades of research have driven the technology through several generations of development, patents and utility certificates in Europe, leading to the current Quantum Drive architecture.
A NEW GENERATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC TECHNOLOGY
In 2026, Quantum Drive is evolving into a modular pulsed electromagnetic acceleration and energy platform combining HTS superconductors, power electronics, cryogenic systems and advanced control technologies.
The technology is being developed according to a dual-use approach:
DEFENCE — COUNTER-UAV / COUNTER-UAS
Development of a solution designed to counter and neutralise hostile drones, including through the study of pulsed electromagnetic effects on their electronic systems, with applications in the protection of critical infrastructure, sensitive facilities and strategic areas.
CIVIL — SPACE APPLICATIONS
Development of an electromagnetic architecture designed to assist the acceleration and launch of microsatellites and small space payloads.
TRL 3–4 → TRL 5
The architecture is currently defined, modelled and documented. The main scientific calculations, preliminary dimensioning and technological choices have been completed.
Quantum Drive is entering its experimental validation phase, with the objective of qualifying the key technological building blocks, developing a representative demonstrator and progressing towards TRL 5.
PARTNERSHIPS
Quantum Drive is now seeking industrial, scientific and academic partners for experimental validation, co-development and industrial maturation.
Co-development • Experimental Validation • Technology Transfer • Industrial Licensing
Detailed technical documentation is available to qualified partners under an appropriate confidentiality framework.
